Yesterday’s Tomorrow

It all happened so suddenly

As the news of the subway

Was spreading to the suburbs

A detonation submerged

All of the outskirts

As people came rushing

From every direction

Some still able to scream

With dead children in their arms

Most could barely walk

Their clothes on fire

Their hair singed

As we approached the highway

News reached us

That some kind of laser weapon

Had toasted the survivors

Of the metro bombing

And as we looked to the sky

We could smell the aeorosols

That were making the ones

Up the hill cough up blood

While we headed into the woods

Helicopters came wooshing over

And machine gun fire

Was the last thing we heard

Then blank…
